Getting to study God’s word at a deeper level is an amazing opportunity. But it is a often a lot of work. Here I’ve compiled some of the tools that made my studies and time in school much easier. Have some ideas of your own? Share them below!
- Quizlet – it’s a flash card app. It allows you to create your own sets for any topic you’d like, and track your progress to narrow your focus. Chances are good that someone else has already created flash cards for your class or topic, so try searching for what you need. You have the option to review the traditional way, fill in the blank, matching, multiple choice, etc.
- Memrise – is another great flash card app for biblical languages. It keeps track of what you’ve missed and brings it back into the rotation.
- The Turabian Supplement by Dallas Seminary – more than likely your school will be using Chicago Style (Turabian) formatting for papers. This supplement gets into specifics on formatting, citation, abbreviation, etc. that other guides don’t. Keep it handy for those papers!
- Mind Node – a little app that allows you to create mind maps/webs and organize your thoughts. Also good for organizing your research.
- Grammarly – a very helpful app for finding your grammatical and spelling errors quickly. If you are studying full time, the yearly subscription fee is worth money since it will improve your writing significantly.
- bestcommentaries.com – Need to write a paper on the book of Hosea or 1st Timothy and don’t know where to start in the library? Read the reviews of the commentaries for each book of the bible on this site. You’ll get reviews and ratings from pastors and top bible scholars around the world.
- The Logos Bible Software “read aloud” feature – Logos is absolutely an essential resource for biblical studies these days. But staring at a screen can strain the eyes as you try to complete your reading. Logos books come with “read aloud” feature (Cmd+R on Mac, Ctrl+R on Windows). You can follow along while the software reads to you, or get your laundry done while you complete your assignment.
- ccel.org – The Christian Classics Ethereal Library is a great source for quickly finding classic and primary historical theological works for reading and research in PDF form.
